How Do Cell Phone Users Spend Their Time? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Indeed, we are in a highly mobile world today. Whether for business or personal communications, “mobile” is definitely the word. As I stated in an earlier post, the easiest way you can grab a piece of this growing market is to start your own mobile phone app business.

One of the reasons I gave why you should think of starting a mobile app business in that post is the startling revelation of a research published by Gartner which puts the number of mobile phones apps to be downloaded in 2013 alone at a whooping 103bn, representing a 59.4% rise on last year’s figures!

Now, I quite understand that as someone who is really interested in the cell phone business you will also be interested in knowing what people are really using their cellphones for. That is why I have teamed up with Earl Ray of Coupon Audit to bring you this infographic with some very useful information on how cell phone users spend their time.

  1. I must admit the first thing I did when I got my first iPhone was to cast aside the iPod I SO depended on for everything from exercising to just passing the time! What surprises me on the infographic most is how low the percentage amount is for people using apps to shop. This tells me that field is wide open for a company or individual to develop the smartest and most efficient shopping app ever. They would probably fill a serious void.

    • @Silvy Perez-Martin,

It’s really interesting that you have an eye for the right stat on that infographic! Frankly, with the increase in the amount of app download knowing those stat is really the secret to making some money with mobile apps. It is not just about creating some great app but creating the right one for just the right people. You can get some more info here:

  2. Hi Chadrack,
This is my first to your site.
Your graphic presentation is mind blowing. I am surprised to see that RIM still in good position whereas its popularity has been dropped drastically in many countries.

    Thanks a lot for sharing.

    • @Paul,

Of course, that is a surprise to many of us also. But there is so much happening in the mobile world that stats like this simply appears surprising to most of us!

      Thanks for the comment.
