Released And Redirected? Now Stay Focused!

Focus is the secret key to your business success!

Today is the twelfth day of our 12 Days of Christmas Inspiration series which means it is the last day!

I must say it has been a journey that has touched my heart. I hope you have gained from it just as I have.

The journey has helped in reevaluating our business’s mission and purpose, it has helped us to jettison every unproductive activity and redirect our business operations. It has also touched on some areas of our personal lives. If for any reason you have not read any of the posts I sincerely plead with you to do so. Click here for the full list and read the ones you have not read.

Today’s post is about staying focused. Yes, we have touched this severally during this series but considering the fact that it is such an important issue when it comes to building a successful business, I want to round off the 12 Days of Christmas Inspiration with it!

Are You Considering Changes In The New Year?

Someone has defined insanity as: doing the same thing and expecting a different result!

If that is indeed true is it then not enough to consider some changes in the New Year? Of course, we know that even when we say change is the only constant thing in life the fact still remains that we resent change like a plague! But the truth still stands that if you are going to make any meaningful impact in 2013, there must be changes.

Knowing what to focus on requires know what should change. And so here are two things you must do:

1. Look At Your Relationships

You cannot succeed alone. You need a team, just as someone said: "A dream is a compelling vision you see in your heart, that’s too big to accomplish without the help of others."

Now, that is very true. You need people to work with however, you must understand that whoever these people are they must be identified and managed accordingly. They may be partners or patrons, clients or critics. Whatever they are, each needs to be handled differently.

As we have said before it is not about activities but productivity.  Whoever is in your team or whoever you chose to work with will determine if you are simply working some activity or producing results. And so, as the New Year approaches you may need to do what someone was reported to have done some time ago. The story has it that this particular man left a message on his answering machine which read:

"I’m not available right now. I’m making some changes in my life. Please leave a message after the beep. If I don’t return your call, you are one of the changes!"

That indeed is wisdom!

2. Keep Things Focused

There will always be a "to do" list but your concern should really be, which of these is helping me towards my dreams?

You have been working on that business for some time now and so you definitely know what has brought you good results in the past. Why not focus on those things? Every tactic or strategy out there is not for you. If it worked for someone who said it did, that doesn’t mean it will work for you. Stop seeking the latest opportunity. Be disciplined enough to say "no" when someone else wants to push you into doing what you know will not move your business forward.

Jim Collins, author of "Good to Great" wrote:

"Most of us lead busy but undisciplined lives. We have ever expanding ‘to do’ lists, trying to build momentum by doing, doing, doing. But it rarely works. Those who built the good to great companies made as much use of ‘stop doing’ lists as ‘to do’ lists. They displayed a remarkable discipline to unplug from all sorts of extraneous junk and channel their resources into only one or a few areas."

And that indeed is another good wisdom for the new year!

Conclusion

If these 12 Days of Christmas Inspiration series will be of any help to you, you must put these two suggestions into use; building a successful business demands building the right relationships and doing the right things at the right time. You must work to rediscover why you are here which will help you decide who and who should be on your team – either as cheerleaders or mentors. Make your own rules and decide on what activities to focus on daily. You can indeed make 2013 truly awesome!

I love you and I wish you a prosperous 2013!

    Hi Chadrack

    Great post.

    Staying focussed and prioritizing the things holds the key when we have too many distractions all around.

    Relationship is the key and we live in blogosphere where we cannot live as an independent unit. We need food and water being provided by fellow bloggers as comments and as honest opinions and knowledge.

    We need to understand what really works and constantly keep on doing hit and trial, there is no success model which can be replicated.

    Thanks for sharing this piece of great work of yours.

      @sapna,

      I must say that I have been distracted many times this year but in writing these posts I’ve was able to really go inside and uncover most of the areas where I lost track. For the coming year I hope to be working with some other like minded bloggers. This will be a master mind and also a collaborative venture. I really look forward to doing more in year 2013. Enough of trial and error for me. I want to focus on those areas that brought me more success this year.

      Thanks for the comment.

    Hey Chadrack,

    Ah, looks like I missed this series but I have no doubt it was a good one based upon what you’ve shared here.

    Ouch, I don’t think I’ll be leaving that on my answering machine since I’m in the process of getting more clients instead of turning them away. I understand the now productivity things that people can get wrapped up with. I’ve pretty much blocked the people out of my life already that didn’t help me continue to move in the direction I wanted to go. It is a necessity I’m afraid. Not pleasant but necessary.

    You definitely need to stay focused if you intend to reach your desired result. Way too many distractions everywhere these days and social media can definitely be a big one if people aren’t careful. It’s fun, I get that but won’t make you any money in the long run.

    Sorry I missed this series but thanks for sharing this with us. Now, here is to you having a fabulous new year.

      @Adrienne,

      Yes, with an eye for more clients no one will want to put that on the answering machine. Lol! But like you said there are some relationships that needs to give way if want to really focus on the things you want to achieve. Frankly, the past few days in moving round the blogosphere, I have discovered that a whole lot of people were at one time or the other, distracted from their goals.

      I must say I was very much guilty also and that was why after much reflections I can up with these post. I was not just writing because I wanted to share something with my readers but it’s like a personal letter to myself! I know they will useful the readers and also to myself. So for now, I’m working on a few things that will help me stay on course in the coming year.

      Thanks for the comment and it’s a pleasure to have you around. Best of the New Year to you!

    Hello Chadrack,

    Like Adrienne I didn’t check the whole series, this is the first post I read on your blog but it was surely interesting and I happen to agree with you 100% on that just by doing a lot or being busy all the time, does not equal to be making progress towards building an online business.

    I hope you have a fantastic year ahead of you and by your writing I know you definitely are an action taker, hope to see more stuff from you my man and all the best.

    I’ll definitely come back again to read the rest, take care! ;-)

      @Sergio Felix,

      it’s really a pleasure to see around. Yes, I’ve always been considered with many of the activities one is involved with online in the name of running a business. In the past few days I had to really look into these things and discovered that no many of them are really adding any value to the enterprise. And so for me, it is time to let go some of these things and focus on the ones that are helping to move things forward. The coming will therefore see some things being pulled out of the list of things to do!

      Thanks for the good words about the content. I appreciate your visit and look forward to seeing more of you. Have a truly blessed New Year!

    Hi Chadrack,
    Staying focused in one’s business, and in life in general, is what I’m preaching about on my blog.
    If you don’t stay focused, and have a plan of action…a road map to know where you’re going…how the heck are you going to be successful in whatever venture you engage in?

    You’ve got a great attitude, my friend! Don’t let negativity get you down.

    This online biz will have its ups & its downs. You just have to roll with the punches.

    Keep up the great work!

      @George Nieves,

      Truly love that, “You just have to roll with the punches” :)

      You know a whole lot of people don’t realize that there is work to be done to make money online. Many believe you simply set up a website and the money will start rolling in. Many don’t realize that like every business you need a plan and a strategy.

      Thanks for the comment, wishing you the best of 2013!

    Hi Chadrack – like some of your other readers, I’ve stumbled upon this series right at the end, but it looks like good advice to me.

    I’ve been busy writing my plan for the coming year over the last few days, so this issue is very much on my mind.

    It can be hard to stay focused when you’re working online because of all the distractions – so it’s important to have a plan in place to help you keep on track – and I like the point you make about sometimes needing to say ‘no’, which can be very hard to do.

    Many thanks for these great tips – very helpful,

    Sue

      @Sue Neal,

      It’s really great to hear that you have taken time to lay out your plan for the year. Frankly, this is one of the things I gave myself to doing for the past few weeks. I have plans to take on new projects for this year and I discovered that without a plan I will not be able to make any mark.

      Though the series were started to encourage my blog readers, I soon discovered that I needed them more than the readers, frankly! :) Right now I using them as a reference in some of the things I’m doing right now.

      Thanks for the comment.

    I think it is really not going to work if you do the same things and expecting the different result. For building success in the business one must pay attention on building good relationships. And the most important factor in this area is to ‘stay focused’ for doing the right things at right time.

      @bjohn,

      Building relationships is really important considering the fact that businesses are today becoming more social than every before. Concentrating only on the money will never help.

      Thanks for the comment.
