Let me begin the post by saying Merry Christmas to you. Finally Christmas day is here and though it supposed to be a holiday I have committed myself to sharing with you some inspiration during this period. And so today in our 12 days of Christmas inspiration, I want to share with you some lessons the story of Christmas can teach us about building a successful online business.
What, Christmas and building an online business? What connection is there? Ok, I understand your confusion and that is why I’ll ask that you read this piece through.
So, let’s begin.
Lesson #1: The Christmas Story Is A Testimonial To The Power Of A Dream
I’m sure you understand that the celebration of Christmas is simply the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world.
But why a savior?
The world needed a savior because some time in the past, the created world came under the wrath of God because of the disobedience of man. The Bible records that God’s love for his created world moved him to set in motion a plan of restoring the earth back to its original state.
Though righteousness and justice demanded full punishment, God’s love promised a savior, a redeemer (Gen. 3: 15).
So, the redemption of the world became the Father’s dream for as long as the world was under the punishment of the Almighty God for that act of disobedience, the world was outside his will and purpose. But fulfilling that dream eventually spanned thousands of years – years that saw different “disappointments” and “setbacks!”
However, when Christmas morning came all of that was wrapped up in the joy of the coming of the promised one. The first carol sang by the host of angels who appeared to the shepherds when Jesus was born in Bethlehem summed it all up:
“Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2: 10 – 11)
It is indeed good news for the dream of the Father is today fulfilled. So you also can rejoice that no matter what you may have passed through in trying to bring your dream to reality, one day it shall come to pass. You can be sure of this because Christmas is a testimonial to that fact!
Lesson #2: Your Dream Needs Actionable Steps For It To Become A Reality!
When God dreamed of restoring the world back to its originally created state, he did not do that by a simple wave of his hand, though this was not impossible knowing that he is omnipotent. Of course, the Genesis account of creation states he brought everything to being by the word of his mouth. He could have also done this.
But no he didn’t! Instead he set in motion a plan that started with the choice of a man – Abraham (Gen. 12: 1 – 3). While calling Abraham, God made clear his purpose: “In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed!”
From working with a man he moved on to choose a nation – the nation of Israel. During this dispensation it indeed appeared he was not concerned with the rest of the world. But no, even at this time his purpose and plan was for the whole world. He was only putting a principle before us – which is, a dream needs actionable, definable and specific steps!
The dream for a total world wide restoration was fulfilled in the story of Christmas for the extent of the dream was again emphasized! It is “good tidings of great joy to all peoples!” Today, the Christian faith is the catalyst for fulfilling the world wide restoration.
“For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” (John 3: 17)
“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Cor. 15: 17)
God has shown us here that in planning to achieve our dreams, we must learn to put our plans in actionable steps instead of taking everything at a stride. It is important that a dream should have short term, medium term and long term goals.
Lesson #3: You Mustn’t Throw Away Your Confidence
Thousands of years went by before God’s dream of restoring the whole world was fulfilled in Christ! Indeed the years of waiting were never pleasant. As we have mentioned there were “disappointments” and “setbacks” but that could not stop the story of Christmas.
At various times, individuals chosen to be instruments in actualizing the dream failed. The nation of Israel failed. Even now the church is faltering in many ways but the good news is that in Christ God the Father took the bold step of doing everything that is needed to actualize the dream.
The lesson for us here is that no matter how long the vision tarries, it will definitely come to pass! Your dream of a successful business will definitely be fulfilled. Yes, it may take time and you may face difficulties and challenges, but if you will not throw away your confidence; if you will persist no matter the challenges, success will surely come just as the morning comes after the night!
The Christmas story is that of victory. As the forces of darkness could not stop it so your dream cannot be stopped. Do what the Lord asked his servant Prophet Habakkuk to do, “Write the vision and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2: 2 -3).
Once again, merry Christmas!
