New Look and Rules for the WebIncomeJournal!

You will agree with me that in the recent past a lot of changes have been witnessed both in the online marketing cycles. Most of these changes occasioned by the search algorithm changes by Google have impacted greatly on how businesses now drive traffic and connect with their target audiences online.

I’m happy to announce that the Web Income Journal is also changing with the times! We do hope that these changes will enhance our operations and also improve your use of the site.

Here are some of the changes worth noting:

1. A New Look

For some months now I’ve been testing a few things on this blog trying to get some insights into their impact on users of the site. Having studied the feedback thus far I’ve decided on a new theme which I hope will give the blog a simpler look.

I’ll love your candid opinion on this new look. Please share in your comments below.

2. Commenting Rules

When the grand daddy of all search engines Google, decided to come out heavily on recalcitrant SEOs this year with the various algorithm changes and updates, I knew that many of these SEOs will turn to other channels to unleash their nefarious activities. One of those areas I knew will be targeted by these SEOs is blog commenting.

I must say that from what I have seen in the past few weeks, my hunches are not far from been correct. I’ve therefore decided not to allow things to go out of hand before taking action. And so, in a bid to guide against those who will want to take the ‘blackhat’ route, I have decided on a new set of commenting rules for the Web Income Journal.

Please do read them before you post your comment. Click here.

3. Guest Blogging Terms

Like #2 above, this is also a result of the different Google algorithm changes – Panda, Penguin, Exact Domain Match (EDM) etc. and their effect on link building generally. I understood right from the beginning that many will be turning to guest blogging as the new strategy for link building and as a “dofollow” blog, I knew we are going to be a good bride for many! Now, for me that is no problem. However, if you want to do that, then you must be ready to give the users of this blog something worth their time!

Before now, most of the guest posts published on this blog have about 30% of my input – both in SEO optimization and context structuring to fit the lingo of the blog. I definitely don’t want to spend so much time on any guest post anymore. Anyone wanting to guest post on the Web Income Journal must be ready to ensure that his/her guest post is not only perceived to have value but must indeed provide that value. Our rules are not really different from what others demand but beyond that we will definitely be implementing them with more strictness.

Please read the new rules here.

  1. We all know that blog commenting is good way to earn some valuable links for your website. However you must not use it as spamming. It’s better to read full article before leaving any useful comment. As a commenter if you won’t leave good comment then you won’t see any approval and you would be marked as spammer so it crucial to comment when you have something useful to add.

    • @Aasma,

I agree with you totally there but unfortunately many now regard blog commenting only as a link building strategy. Seeing comments on ones blog is a good thing but right now I’m prepared to see only those who are here with genuine reasons.

      Thanks for the comment.

  2. I know the name [at] keywords strategy in comments is used by a lot of people and could be somewhat effective but I just don’t see myself employing it and on the contrary, accepting it if someone comments on my blogs. For me, it just looks unnatural and to an extent, spammy. I would rather write long valuable comments and have people get interest on me via the comment itself.

By the way, the new design looks nice. Its clean and very spacious.

    • @Kristian,

Spammy is the right word! I really was using it before but after considering it in light of the recent Google changes I decided to kill it from my tactics! I truly think we should use the comments sections for what it is, keep the conversation going.

Thanks for the comment and it’s a pleasure that you love the new design.

    • @Shane,

It’s glad to hear your views about the new theme. I’m really trying to create a clean and un-clustered environment for the users. Is there any area you think I can improve in the look? Will love to hear from you.
